I’m a classic overachiever with certain things. I love lists, and I like trying out ideas I think could make money.
One of my issues is that I tend to cram my list with too many things. Then I can’t do it all, nothing ends up getting done, and I feel bad about it. That’s part of the reason I created the Two Pillars lifestyle. It’s a way to make sure the important things get done, and to get clear on what those important things actually are.
Now when I create my daily list, I keep it intentionally light. On a work-from-home day I can usually be done by 1 p.m., and then I give myself permission to take it easy for the rest of the day.
That hasn’t been as easy as I thought it would be. Over time I’d worked myself into a “get more done, not less” frame of mind. When my day ended at 1, I started to feel like I wasn’t doing enough, like I could be doing more.
What’s helped is not letting myself do anything but fun stuff once my list is done. Slowly, I’ve been coming around. I feel more peaceful and less rushed, and I think I’m actually achieving more, not less.
